The Word ‘Plumber’ Comes from a Latin Word
January 14, 2019
Ben Franklin is the leading firm of plumbers in Wichita and if you have ever thought the word “plumber” was a little strange, it actually derives from the Latin word “plumbum” which means liquid silver and refers to their lead pipes.
Yes, the Romans had lead pipes. Oops! Many people affirm that the fall of the Roman Empire was the result of the lead in their water. No doubt they thought that inventing lead pipes was extremely clever, but then they didn’t have access to the technology that we have 2,000 years later.
Whether the fall of the Roman Empire was indeed due to lead in their water we don’t know, but what we do know is that we are proud to bear the name “plumber” and we are equally proud to assure you that we do not use lead pipes! As the leading plumbers in Wichita we use only the most modern equipment and the finest quality supplies, and that certainly doesn’t include any lead.
In fact, readers of the Wichita Eagle have voted us the best plumbers in Wichita for six years in succession from 2011, and we strive to maintain that position. We go out of our way to provide a service to Wichita residents that is second to none and we are one of the few plumbers in the city and surrounding area to provide a genuine 24 hour 365 day service. We quite understand that plumbing emergencies cannot wait.
When you have water coming through the ceiling or the toilet won’t flush at 11 pm on Friday night, you don’t want to have to wait until Monday morning before you can call a plumber to come and fix it. In fact, it is a good idea to do what a lot of people do and that is put our name and phone number into the directory of your mobile. You may never need us, but if you have an emergency you won’t need to boot up your laptop and start searching on Google in the middle of the night.
We undertake every type of plumbing installation and repair work in Wichita including all types of sump pumps. Our sump pumps are ultra-quiet and muffle that awful thumping sound that you get when your sump pump shuts off. We also install battery-powered backup sump pumps that run on electricity but kick in to the battery when the electricity fails. In addition, we install water powered sump pumps that need no electricity or battery and run off the city’s water supply. We have been installing these since the early 1980’s, and that is over 35 years of experience.
