How to Install a New Dishwasher

You found a great deal on a new dishwasher, now to figure out how to get it working. Learning how to install a new dishwasher is one of the more complex home DIY projects. But our quick checklist will help walk you through it step by step.
Prep for Installation
Before removing the existing appliance, make sure you have all the parts and tools at hand.
No one wants to abandon a plumbing project to run to the hardware store. You’ll need:
Dishwasher installation kit
Drip pan or bowl
Screwdriver and pliers
Furniture pad or blanket
Spirit level
Masking tape
Remove Existing Dishwasher
Once you have everything you need, it’s time to remove the existing machine:
Shut off power at the breaker
Turn off water supply valve to the old machine
Remove the access panel with a screwdriver
Disconnect the wiring connections at the machine’s terminal box
Remove the water supply line from the old machine
Catch any water leaks with the drip pan or bowl
Disconnect the drain hose from the old machine
Remove the brackets holding the old machine to cabinetry
Remove old dishwasher from the cabinet
Secure the electrical wiring to the floor using masking tape
Prepping New Dishwasher
Before you can install the new dishwasher, remove it from the box and prepare it for connection.
Remove dishwasher from the box and lay it down on its back onto the furniture pad
Remove the front access panel on the new machine and open the installation kit
Attach the included 90-degree elbow fitting to the new dishwasher water valve
Remove the old water supply hose
Route the new supply hose from the kit through the existing hole and connect
Remove the old drain hose from the sink drain or garbage disposal
Replace with new drain hose from the installation kit.
Installing New Dishwasher
Once you’ve replaced the old hoses with the new ones from the kit, you can install the new dishwasher.
Slide the new appliance into place
Connect water supply line to the 90-degree angle
Tighten with pliers
Test connection for leaks
Connect new drain hose
Reconnect the electrical wiring using the manufacturer’s instructions
Secure Installation
Once you’ve connected the new machine, it’s time to move it into its final position.
Make sure the unit is level using a spirit level
Adjust the leveling legs if necessary
Ensure front of dishwasher sits flush to the cabinetry
Secure the dishwasher in place using the included brackets
Replace the front access panel.
