4 Spring Plumbing Tips That Will Help Save You Money
March 20, 2015
Spring shouldn't be limited to cleaning your home's furniture and closets. For plumbers such as us, spring is a time when many people call upon us to fix, repair, or install new plumbing equipment (sometimes all 3) within their home or commercial building. Therefore, we thought it would be great to share some spring plumbing tips that will be able to help keep your home or business's drainage and pipe systems in check.
1. Make Sure Faucets Are Not Dripping
This is first on our list because this is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to figuring of who or in this case what—is wasting water. If you find that a faucet is leaking you can do one of two things: one, do it yourself or two, hire a company such as us to do it. Sure, you can find plenty of tutorials on how to do it online, but there are many different kinds of faucets out there and if you replace it incorrectly, you can do more harm than good.
2. Ensure Drains Are Emptying as Quickly as Ever
Most people use their bathtubs, showers, and sinks on a daily basis and they won't notice any change in how fast or slow the water drains until it gets truly noticeable. However, for those that do notice a change, we suggest tackling the issue right away so that it does not become a bigger problem later on. There are many ways to ensure your drains remain unclogged, but if you do not feel confident, or feel there might be bigger issues, call a licensed plumber to come out and check.
3. Make Sure You Are Still Getting Consistent Hot Water & Check Your Heater
Are you noticing a change in how hot your water is getting? This might be a sign that your hot water heater is malfunctioning. Also, if it is too hot (set to be over 120 degrees) your heater is also using a lot of energy. If you need it to be replaced or checked we strongly suggest calling a plumber to see if it is performing at its best.
4. Make Sure Your Toilets Are Not Leaking by Doing the Food Color Test
Toilets could also be another reason why you are losing water. If you have a suspicion that you are, one way to determine that is by adding some food coloring into the tank. If the food coloring appears in the bowl after a half an hour, you are losing water.
