Types of Water Heaters You May Not Have Considered
January 8, 2014
If the time has finally come that your “old faithful” water heater needs to be replaced, there are a couple of options you might not have thought about. You could purchase another traditional tank-type model, of course, or you could go with a tankless model which will provide you with hot water on demand. More than likely, you’ve already considered those, but what about heat pump or solar water heaters? If you dig a little deeper, you may find one of these will be the one that is right for you. At Ben Franklin Dallas, we’d like to share some information on these alternatives.
Solar Water Heaters
These work with solar panels installed on your roof to heat your water using the energy of the sun. Here are a few of the benefits of going with this type of model:
- Energy savings: You can reduce the energy you use to heat your water by 50 to 90 percent, depending on where your home is located. This will result in substantial savings on your electricity bill each month.
- Helping the environment: You’ll not just be saving money, but you’ll be helping to save the environment as well. Your home won’t be generating nearly the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that it would if you went with a traditional electric water heater.
Heat Pump Water Heaters
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), heat pump water heaters can help save a typical household about $250 each year on its electric bills when compared to standard water heaters. Larger families will save even more. This type of unit will cost more upfront, but will typically provide a return on investment within three years. Like solar models, heat pump water heaters also help the environment by significantly reducing emissions.
