Is Your Garbage Disposal Clogged?
April 16, 2014
At Benjamin Franklin Plumbing® of Dallas, we know how important the proper function of a garbage disposal can be. These in-sink devices save a great deal of time and energy, and they are incredibly helpful in keeping the kitchen and the sink clean. A garbage disposal is not infallible, however, and they can be prone to clogs from time to time. In some cases, you may be able to handle these clogs and restore the proper function of your garbage disposal without calling us, the plumbing repair experts. In most cases, however, it is best to call a professional if your garbage disposal clogged without warning.
Some Clogs Are Manageable
In order to maintain your garbage disposal, there are several methods that you can employ on a weekly basis. These methods may help extend the lifespan of the disposal, while also ensuring its continued proper function. To keep your blades sharp, we recommend putting one to two cups of ice into the disposal. If your disposal emits a smell from time to time, you can use an orange or lemon in the disposal to create a fresh and natural scent instead. To help prevent clogs or to manage smaller ones, use a mixture of warm water and ammonia, allowing it to sit for a half-hour before pouring cold water into the running disposal. If your garbage disposal clogged in a more serious manner, it is likely best to allow us to handle the issue.
