Customers are metered for accurate billing as DWU is a not-for-profit department of the city of Dallas and is funded via rates paid by customers.

The seven sources that fill the Dallas water supply source a 699-square-mile service area. Water comes from lakes, streams, ponds, rivers and other sources and is safe to drink after meeting state and federal standards for water quality.
